UNIT 1 of portfolio.

UNIT 1

  • What is portfolio?

Cristhian Cadena
A portfolio is a collection of all the information that was used in the whole class; you can attach your work like: the material, activities, your notes, copies, evaluations, and more.

The reason of the portfolio is that will facilitate the students and the teacher to be a sign of what and how you did in class and if you need or have a doubt of your knowledge you could check it out.

They are a lot of ways how you could do it, perhaps like a scrapbook, ring binder, computer files, etc; this would reflect your creativity.

Mariana Gutiérrez:
A portfolio is a compilation of certain information that a student may find or have in different formats; books, computer files or videos. The portfolio facilitates the learning of the students, they have the opportunity to check and re-organize their previous material, so they could study it in a easier way, sharing, comparing or just adding some new notes about the topics.
Its a very useful tool for Students and teachers.

What to include in a portfolio?
A portfolio is used most commonly in fields of art and education. It should include our name, school, group and date. The lesson plan of the subject needs to have homeworks and exercises. The portfolio must be very clear and understandable, so it is very important to organize very carefully the material of the course (for example, dividing units, making relevant comments or notes with key words). If the portfolio is well organized, it will work as a very useful tool for us to study, and improve our skills and abilities.

  • Evaluation-assessment- testing and teaching

Cristhian Cadena:

1.-Teaching this process is the guiding that allow and facilitate the student to learn. This will be when the teacher transmits his knowledge to their students.

2.-Assesment is the stage when Ss make and resolve some doubts of the subject teaching in class. If they understand they may continue the class and if they don’t the teacher needs to give some feedback of the subject.

3.-Testing in this process the teacher may give the Ss some questions, activities, or a formal test, that they need to answer whit their previous knowledge of the class.

This is a big opportunity for the Ss to prove their knowledge to the teacher in the test.

4.-Evaluation is the finale grade for the Ss, the teacher most check carefully the process and performance of the Ss based on everything they saw in class and what they did in it.

How evaluation, assessment, testing and teaching relate in a classroom situation.

Well these terms are related to a classroom situation because these aspects are tools that smooth the progress of the learning process of the Ss. These tools will help the teacher to know how the Ss are learning based on the teaching and testing that the teacher will use, this testing will be very helpful for the teacher in the case of missing something of the class, this would help on what they need to reinforce, so at the end of the semester or month the teacher most evaluate the Ss depending on their knowledge.

Mariana Gutierrez:
This elements 4 are very important and of course are related because they have the same objective in the learning process. As teachers we need to give our students a review of the classes so we could help them with difficulties they may help in order to improve in the class. Assesment is a very useful tool for teachers, it give us the opportunity to see how well or bad our students are going. Therefore we could have the chance to provide them assistence or cheer them up in order to keep the good classroom environment. Evaluation is when teachers grade the student’s knowledge, but as teachers we need to be conscious and fair with the grade twe are giving so in the future it won’t be any missundarstandings when it comes to it. Also it is important to tell the students why they are getting that grade.

Teaching is the transmisiion of knowledge from the teacher to the students in order for them to learn and testing students is measuring the understanding of certain learning or knowledge that the teacher provides to the student, teachers may include questions or tests related to their previous classes.

  • Assessment Audit. (Test 1)

For: 2 grade (beginners)

Who are we doing this learning assessment to?

1.-My students:

What do they need the information for?

  • They will have a better cognition of what they are doing in the activities.
  • So they can program some objectives for themselves and in the process they learn about new goals.
  • So students will feel comfortable with their own learning process.
  • So they will be aware of their development on their knowledge.
  • They become responsible about what they are learning.
  • Students as a whole group can resolve together doubts about the things that did not understand in class.
  • They know what they are able to do and what they can't do according the subject they are learning.
  • They socialize with the information base on what they will learn in the future.

What kind of information do they need?

  • They need to be creative when activities are assigned to encourage their own work.
  • They require some kind of reinforcement of their activities, but also you need to question your students so that they come up with their own conclusions.
  • Don't be critical; judging them would only discourage students. Always be positive.
  • They need their own assessment.
  • The writing skill is necessary as they may need written comments to come up with specific points about their work.
  • Students may need models to follow of works made by different partners and teachers to give them a full sense of process. Motivation is Essential.
  • Ask them to bring material that captures their attention, rather than asking for something not interesting for them.
  • Ask them to propose new ideas to work the lesson plan assigned but with ideas that look more attractive to them.
  • Ask them to start teams with their friends so they may share their own interests.

2. - Me (the teacher)

What do they need the information for?

  • Be aware of what the students can do so I can plan my class according on their previous knowledge.
  • Teach according on their knowledge but also take into consideration their needs of the students.
  • So I can be sure I am fair with every single student, by not spending too much time with students that don't really need my help. Don’t overpass time with some students and some with others. Treat them equal. But can concentrate the help with the ones that really require the attention but focusing on the class or a big issue, but class first.
  • So I can be sure that I am covering the whole lesson plan required, or at least I am teaching what I am supposed to be teaching.

What kind of information do they need?

  • I need some information about every single student of my class to know their needs and what they know and how they all are doing on the learning process.
  • Making a quick test at the beginning of the class to see in facts how they are doing and how they feel for being taking this subject.
  • Maybe a portfolio of their later subjects or classes that have being taking previously will help the teacher to check in paper the validation of their work.
  • Survey to get to know the needs of each student and also test the effectiveness of my own teaching.
  • With the needs of the students the teacher can make a comfortable and understandable plan for the students that satisfied their need and learning.
  • Make surveys to check if I am covering the goals of my plan that I proposed in my plan.
  • I will need to have this kind of information on papers to provide to the ones who need to check them any time
  • Some portfolio will help to keep all the activities did in class in order to help me to reflect on my own teaching plan.
  • Learning Objectives: (ACTIVITY 6)*

  • Reflection of the unit:
In this unit we learn a lot about how to do a portfolioit is very important how to elaborate one in order to have a well organized notes of the course. It was very useful for us to know the different ways to do it and the information that it requires. We also learned about assessment and we found out that it wasn’t what we expect.
